Volunteer
Training and learn the hospice story. No experience is required, just an interest in helping others. There is no commitment to become a hospice volunteer by attending the training. Those who have recently lost a loved one are asked to wait a year before joining the patient-care volunteer team. When Volunteer Training is completed, an interview is scheduled to discuss the volunteer’s areas of interest and expertise. In addition to working with patients and families, HSI volunteers also provide support in the office, at health fairs, in parades and with community education.
Volunteers are a special group of people. They volunteer their time, their hands and a warm heart. They expect nothing in return other than knowing they helped another human being. Listening is the greatest skill volunteers can offer to patients and families. Being there when called upon creates a memorable relationship. Outstanding volunteers are honored each year at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.
